CAPRI: Selected Talks IV

This is the fifth and last post in the CAPRI series, summarizing the presentations of Xiaoqin Zou and Ora Schueler-Furman (Saving the best for last..), as provided by the speakers. I hope the CAPRI series was able to give a snapshot of the state of computational protein-protein docking and its community. I want to thank again to everyone that took part in the meeting and helped me with this series.

Tradeoff between stability and multispecificity in the design of promiscuous proteins

Traditionally, computational protein design efforts have been directed at calculating a single sequence predicted to fold to a particular target structure. Recently, however, a number of conceptual generalizations have been pursued, ranging from the use of backbone flexibility, off-rotamer side chain flexibility, negative design, multi-body potentials, conformational free energy, and prediction of sequence profiles. Below I present our state-of-the-art research whose goal is to understand how protein sequences are optimized to be compatible with binding multiple partners with high affinity. – By Menachem Fromer.

RosettaCon 2010

As in previous years, we would like to invite representatives of the pharma and biotech industry to participate in RosettaCon 2010. Take part in the workshops, seminars, and have an opportunity to meet the Rosetta Commons researchers. Get to know Rosetta from the inside. RosettaCon will take place during August 3-6 at the beautiful Sleeping Lady Mountain Retreat in Leavenworth, Washington, about 2.5 hours outside Seattle, in a dramatic mountain scenery – the only fitting environment for a scientific discussion really.

Models on the cover

In 2009, an israeli model (Bar Refaeli) had gotten the cover of the sports illustrated special swimsuit issue.

In 2010, an israeli modeler (Yours truly) had gotten the cover of the February issue of “Structure”.

Indeed it’s hard to say which is more sexy. We will of course follow up with an in-depth coverage of the paper (regretably just of the latter).

Scientist in Computational Protein Design Position at Adimab

Please submit a resume and cover letter to hr@adimab.com.

Description

Adimab is looking for scientists with experience in computational protein design to join its Computational Biology group. Successful candidates will work on developing novel computational algorithms and software for rational structure-based design and optimization of antibody molecules and libraries. The computational effort will be closely linked to experimental sequence and binding information obtained from Adimab’s validated, high-throughput antibody discovery platform.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Biophysics, Biochemistry or related fields
• Previous academic or biotech industry experience in developing and employing protein design and/or docking algorithms and software
• Strong programming experience in C++ , C or Python
• Strong intuitive grasp of protein structure and function

About Adimab

Adimab’s integrated antibody discovery and optimization platform provides unprecedented speed from antigen to purified, full-length human IgGs. Adimab offers fundamental advantages by delivering diverse panels of therapeutically relevant antibodies that meet the most aggressive standards for affinity, epitope coverage, species cross-reactivity and expressability. Adimab enables its partners to rapidly expand their biologics pipelines through a broad spectrum of technology access arrangements.

For more information, visit http://www.adimab.com.

Adimab is located in New Hampshire’s beautiful Upper Connecticut River Valley, just minutes from Dartmouth College, Dartmouth Medical School, the Tuck School of Business, the Thayer School of Engineering, and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Adimab offers individually tailored compensation packages that are comprised of competitive salary, bonus, and equity components in addition to a world class working environment in a newly constructed lab.
